A gift of stock
Giving appreciated shares directly means no capital gains tax for you, and the full value of the shares for the children MFCA serves.
Why give shares instead of cash
When you give appreciated stock directly to a nonprofit, your charitable deduction equals the fair market value of the shares on the date of transfer — not what you paid for them.
No capital gains tax
Transferring the shares themselves avoids the capital gains you would owe if you sold them first.
Deduct today's value
Your deduction is based on the fair market value at transfer, rather than your original purchase price.
How to make the transfer
Download our transfer instructions
The PDF carries the receiving account details your broker will ask for.
Authorize it with your broker
Contact Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, Merrill Lynch, or whoever holds the shares — usually an online form or a branch visit. The instructions give the account details, but they do not initiate the transfer, and neither we nor our investment team can start it for you.
Tell us it is coming
This step is the one donors miss. Stock arrives at our financial institution without a donor name attached, so a quick call or email is what lets us match the gift to you and send your receipt.
Please notify us when you initiate the transfer
Transfers arrive without individual donor identification. Notifying our office by phone or email as soon as the transfer is initiated is what makes an official IRS tax receipt possible.
Questions about a transfer already in motion? Call (248) 242-7244 or write to mfca@muslimfostercare.org. MFCA is a zakat-eligible 501(c)(3); EIN 81-3658772.
